OTDR Fiber Network Testing
Optical time-domain reflectometer (OTDR) are used to characterize an optical fiber. It injects optical pulses into the fiber under test and extracts, from the same end of the fiber, light that is scattered or reflected back from points along the fiber. The scattered or reflected light that is gathered back is used to characterize the optical fiber. The strength of the return pulses is measured in regards to Insertion Loss and Return Loss and integrated as a function of time, and plotted as a function of fiber length. Plots can stored in Telcordia OTDR Data Format SR-4731.
Our service allows to analyse existing fiber networks, identify bottle necks and to identify the technical capabilities to upgrade existing networks using CWDM and DWDM technologies. In some case we found that the existing network could be upgraded to achieve 2000 times more throughput by just changing the transmission equipment.
